Why We Love Ellen DeGeneres

By Ankur Bhelawe.

The Season 14 of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show‘ premiered on September 6, 2016! If you’ve ever watched ‘The Ellen Show’, you know that Ellen DeGeneres isn’t just some funny comedian. There’s much more to her than what meets the eye.  When she joined the television industry, no one knew that one day, she’d be so successful. And yet, there she is, beaming at the world and proudly defending who she is. Spend an hour watching ‘The Ellen Show’, and your cheeks pain from the endless smiling and howling with laughter. She is hilarious! So powerful and heartfelt are her emotions that in the course of an hour, she can make you laugh; she can make you cry.

Over the years, her show has grown into as much a platform for comedy as a platform for spreading awareness on a plethora of social issues like bullying. Ellen has long since represented the LGBT community and advocated for their rights. She has invited many real-life heroes who have been changing the world by doing touching acts of kindness, and many people who have an unbroken spirit even after facing many adversities in life. She is an inspiration to the old and the young alike.

Here are the reasons we love her.

Her kindness and acts of charity:

Over the years, Ellen has raised millions of dollars for noble causes. She has raised $10 million for the survivors of the hurricane Katrina and $12.5 million for breast cancer research. She has given $21.6 million to charity, $1.7 million to schools and $35 million to her own viewers in need out of her own pocket. In January 2016, she was awarded the People’s Choice Award for the Choice Humanitarian. Her last words on the show are “Be kind to one another! Bye!”

Her generosity:

Call her Ellen ‘DeGenerous’ if you like. No matter what day it is or what occasion it is, she is constantly giving numerous gifts to her audience, ranging from $500 gift cards and a 3 night holiday package for everyone, to 55 inch TCL Roku TVs and cars like Chevrolet Malibu! Many a time, she has paid bills and fees for her fans in need of help.

She makes people’s dreams come true:

DeGeneres has often introduced her audience to small kids whose dreams she’d fulfilled. She sent a girl to Pixar Studios, a boy to the sets of Harry Potter and another girl to a tour of the White House! Time and again, she has invited cancer patients on her show, and motivated them, made them laugh and smile. She is truly an agent of God.

Her love of dance:

“I stand for honesty, equality, kindness, compassion, treating people the way you’d want to be treated and helping those in need. To me, those are traditional values. That’s what I stand for. I also believe in dance.” She dances with her audience on every single taping of the show.

She doesn’t apologize for who she is:

We admire her courage. She strongly stands by her principles and speaks out her opinions fearlessly. She accepts who she is, through and through. “To me, beauty is about being comfortable in your own skin. It’s about knowing and accepting who you are.” “Accept who you are. Unless you are a serial killer.”

Her love of pranks:

She scares unsuspecting guests in the most hilarious manner! She has often asked celebrities like Adele to join her in the fun as she dictates what they have to do in a hidden earpiece and hidden cameras record the shocked faces of the targets!

Her wit and humor:

Comedy is her strong suit. If you’re depressed, tune in for an episode (or binge-watch it) to perk up your mood. The next thing you know, you’ll be cackling with laughter! She can laugh at herself. Comedy is something she was born to do. She’s an expert at comic reflection with a social agenda that is veiled with such sophistication, it makes you put you thinking caps on.

Dory:

She taught us a life lesson as the forgetful blue tang. No matter how hard life gets, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming!”

By dedicating her life to spreading love and kindness, Ellen has changed the world. Thank you Ellen for being you.
